St. Paul's Current Projects
For a review of St. Paul's ongoing ministries please see the Ministries page. This Projects page however is devoted to special tasks which the Parish is currently undertaking. Perhaps you can join us in one or more of these opportunities for service.
Episcopal Appalachian
Ministries
In 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 St. Paul's sent work teams for a week to the Appalachian region in southwestern Virginia to help people repair their houses. The carefully selected homeowners had been simply unable to make the necessary repairs on their own due to limited resources. The end of the weeks found many tangible improvements for the homeowners -- and many intangible blessings for the teams.
St. Paul's is the only parish in Delaware participating in EAM.
Turn on your speakers and click for a slide show of St. Paul's 2007 work camp experience.
Also, see the Newsroom page for a write-up of the 2007 event and visit Episcopal Appalachian Ministries at www.visit-eam.org. This is an event we plan to participate in each year, so consider your involvement.
Note! You can be involved by helping defray St. Paul's expenses for the team. Each worker costs the parish $250, which pays for that worker's food, housing and some work materials. St. Paul's also pays for gasoline and tolls to get the team to southwestern Virginia and back. Gifts for this project should be clearly marked as such -- and thank you on behalf of our struggling Appalachian friends.
Distant Neighbors
St. Paul's hosts an annual Distant Neighbors Fair Trade Festival in which we sell "fair trade" items. These gift items are created by developing-world craftspeople who are paid a fair price for them, enabling a climb out of poverty. In addition, principles of gender equity, environmentalism and respectful interaction are observed. The sale in 2008 will be Nov. 21 and 22, 9AM to 5PM both days. Think Christmas shopping with a conscience. Contact Distant Neighbors Committee Chair Russ Henk for further information or to volunteer.
Note! Because we all need fair trade chocolate, coffees and teas throughout the year, they will be available for sale periodically at St. Paul's. Contact Russ Henk for what will be available and when.
Parish
Cookbook
The all new St. Paul's Parish Cookbook is available for sale at the church. Get 'em while they're hot! Cost is $12 each to benefit St. Paul's parish.
Prayer
Shawl Ministry
Parishioners knit or crochet shawls and give them to elderly and shut-in persons to provide comfort and help maximize their prayer experience. This is in keeping with an ancient Jewish tradition of using a shawl during prayer. Mim Carter has volunteered to help anyone learn to knit. Otherwise contact Judy Dean if you would like to join this ministry of caring.

Shirt Sale
The Men's Group is selling golf shirts for $15 and sweatshirts for $20 to benefit the Youth Group. The high-quality shirts are embroidered with the Episcopal shield over "St. Paul's, Georgetown, DE." The golf shirts (pictured) are available in blue and white, various sizes. The sweatshirts are available in navy blue, various sizes. Please contact Russ Henk or any member of the Men's Group to get your shirt -- and they make great gifts.
Adopt-a-Family
Each year St. Paul's "adopts" a couple of families for Christmas. Come November of each year there is a sign-up poster in the great hall where you can sign up to give toys, clothes, etc. If you don't like to shop, cash contributions can be given to Buster Richardson or left in the office with Vicki Reinsfelder. "It is more blessed to give than to receive."
St. Paul's Library
Karen Swartout is soliciting ABR ("already been read") books for our church library. What are needed specifically are biographies, autobiographies, books appropriate for children under seven years old, novels and mysteries.
Please bring your books in good condition to the church, including with each book an index card with the name of the author (surname first), the title of the book and perhaps a few sentences about the book.
The library is available for your use with a variety of genres, including many how-to books. Please feel free to stop by and borrow some books.
